When Lubna moved to the UK three years ago, she brought with her a strong academic foundation — a recognised Level 6 Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Motivated to build a long-term career in the pharmaceutical sector, she soon realised that gaining UK-based work experience and understanding the local job market were essential first steps.
Despite her qualifications, Lubna struggled to secure interviews and received no responses to her job applications. As a mother to a two-year-old and with limited local networks, her confidence began to decline.
“I felt stuck. I had experience and qualifications but no one was responding to my applications. I started to think something was wrong with me.” – Lubna
Lubna joined the Work Harrow UKSPF Employment Support Programme in January 2024. She received tailored one-to-one and group support, including help with CV writing, job applications, interview preparation, and regular check-ins. Lubna was signposted to local employers and encouraged to seek support whenever needed.
Within a month, she received two job offers: a Customer Service role at Harrow Council and a Learning & Support Assistant position at a College — both signposted by Work Harrow and aligned with her development goals. With her adviser’s support, she assessed her options and chose the Harrow Council role to build her professional skills in a public-sector environment.
Work Harrow liaised with both employers to coordinate interview schedules and supported Lubna in professionally communicating her decision. While one employer was disappointed, they expressed interest in considering her for future opportunities.
Now employed, Lubna is building confidence, gaining valuable UK experience, and progressing toward her long-term career goals in the healthcare sector.
